How it works
Welcome to online therapy, also known as distance counseling. If this is your first time experiencing online counseling there are a few things you will need to know before getting started. Please take some time to review these items below. To make your experience positive and to make sure the therapeutic needs are met I would approach it the same way as if you were about to visit a therapist in an office. Make sure you have a private space that you will not be interrupted or distracted. Turn off your phone, television, and music. Consider other things that might distract you during an office visit and clear them from the space you’ll be using for your appointment.
Confidentiality
Online therapy is effective and convenient. It also is confidential just like traditional therapy. I use a program called Simple Practice to ensure that our video conferencing is safe, secure, and confidential.
What you will need
You will need internet access, as well as video technology. Video technology can be a laptop, cell phone (with a camera), It also helps to have a quiet place.
Rules and regulations
I am licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in the state of Georgia. This license is what allows me to provide Masters’ level professional counseling services. Since, I am only licensed in Georgia, then I can only provide services in Georgia. This means that if you are in the state of Georgia I can provide services. If you are not in Georgia when you are needing counseling, then I am unable to provide counseling for you. If you travel and are out of the state often please let me know so we can develop a plan for when you are out of the state of Georgia.
